Documentary.
Documentary's are factual based non-fictional films which are mainly narrative based, they are very popular within short films and some are extremely successful, examples include Born to be mild and The Last Bookstore. Both of these films consist of less that ten minutes material but allow the viewers to get a deep insight into the protagonists lives.I have chosen to analyse the genre of the documentary, this is because it is an extremely interesting
genre which fascinates me due to the fact it is centralised around real life.
Action
In action films it is common that the protagonists end up in some form of conflict or a serious of challenging situations, many action films have a hero, a villain and a pursuit which generally leads to the victory of the hero, this genre is closely associated with thriller and adventure films. Due to technological advancements the making of action films has become significantly easier due to the introduction of CGI rather than stunt doubles etc.
Comedy
Comedy films and designed to elicit laughter from the audience, they are often light hearted dramas that are told within a narrative. Comedy hybrids commonly exist such as horror comedy or comedy thrillers. There are several types of comedy such as slapstick and dark humour.
Horror
Horror is a film genre seeking to elicit a negative emotional reaction from viewers by playing on the audience's primal fears. Inspired by literature from authors like Edgar Allan Poe, Bram Stoker, and Mary Shelley, horror films have existed for more than a century. The macabre and the supernatural are frequent themes, and may overlap with the fantasy, supernatural fiction and thriller genres.
Horror films often deal with viewers' nightmares, fears, revulsions and terror of the unknown. Plots within the horror genre often involve the intrusion of an evil force, event, or personage into the everyday world. Prevalent elements include ghosts, extraterrestrials, vampires, werewolves, demons, gore, torture, vicious animals, evil witches, monsters, zombies, cannibals, psychopaths, and serial killers.
Romance
Romance films are romantic love stories recorded in visual media for broadcast in theaters and on cinema that focus on passion, emotion, and the affectionate romantic involvement of the main characters and the journey that their genuinely strong, true and pure romantic love takes them through dating, courtship or marriage. Romance films make the romantic love story or the search for strong and pure love and romance the main plot focus. Occasionally, romance lovers face obstacles such as finances, physical illness, various forms of discrimination, psychological restraints or family that threaten to break their union of love. As in all quite strong, deep, and close romantic relationships, tensions of day-to-day life, temptations, and differences in compatibility enter into the plots of romantic films.
Sci-fi
Science fiction films are often based around new scientific discoveries not being accepted by the mainstream academic world, this includes things such as extra-terrestrials, space crafts and interstellar travel or other technologies, they often explore philosophical themes and political and social issues. The genre has existed since the early years of silent films, the first being "A trip to the moon" by Georges Melies'. However since this the have grown immensely in popularity and the quality has vastly increased due to the improvement in technologies.
