Applying narrative to my short film

AS Media Studies Main Task from Maeve Ramsey on Vimeo.

Aristotle's Unities.

Unity of time
The opening of our film does in fact conform to this theory however it can not be said for sure as to whether or not the remainder of the film would conform to this theory.

Unity of place
This is not the case within our short film as we see the protagonist move throughout several locations within a short space of this, due to this the theory can not be applied.

Unity of action
It is difficult to say within this short film if the action would indeed end in a logical and moral conclusion, due to our opening being relatively vague and open ended there are several potential endings that could occur.

Freytag's dramatic structure.
In our opening scene there is a clear use of the idea of an exposition, though having a news reader explain the current situation in regards to cloning we set the scene effectively and expose the viewer to the world in which this film is set. I also believe that have a section which can be seen as the rising action and the climax, this being whenever the clone falls out of the suitcase in the last scene, however I do not think that we have any falling action or any resolution to a catastrophe. Therefore I think that overall we do not strictly follow Freytag's dramatic structure theory.

Torodov's Theory
I do not think that our film opening does follow Torodov's Theory as I believe from the very beginning of our film opening there is a state of dis equilibrium, which intensifies throughout the film, it is unlikely that's film will end in a state of peace and harmony due to the clearly immoral actions in which the film is centred around.

Propp's Theory
Propp believed that in every film there are 8 types of character that only had a potential to do one of 31 things, I do not think this is the case in our short film. Whilst I do believe that our main character could embody both the hero and villain within the film, I do not see room for characters such as the princess or the donor, this forces me to believe that our short film does not follow this theory.
